: old car, older guy...who ever said I had to grow up!

Ok...here's the deal. The kids are gone, the house is paid for, I was able to retire early. Now it's play time! Got my hands on a '67 El Camino...the car I have lusted for since high school...and I want to get it all cherried out. Nothing radical, it's all stock and I like it that way. But I'd like to update a few things like tires, suspension and an overdrive trans. I thought I'd need disc brakes up front, but to be honest, the power drums seem to be working just fine. Oh yeah... the body & paint are kind of shabby after all these years, so a little bodywork & a killer paint job (stock color) is on "the list" too. The mechanical stuff I can probably do myself, but how do you find a good body shop that is not only capable of doing an extra nice job, but will actually do an extra nice job and not just tell me, after the fact, that "they were never perfect from the factory". I live in the Seattle area. Any suggestions?

Welcome to TC. Checkout the NW forum down in the cruise-in section. Those guys are mainly from up around you and probably get you a couple of local references for shops. Another option is to go to local shows and see if you can find who is doing the work that way. You will find most bodyshops like collision work over full paint jobs as peice work is where the money is. Also check out the body shop forum there is a lot of good info inthere that can help you with bodywork stuff. Good Luck

I'd be glad to supply some pictures, but I'll need some coaching to get them on the site. I've got a decent digital camera and I've obviously got a computor, but you gotta remember I'm an old guy that has been dragged into the computor age, kicking & screaming the whole way! But I'm a fast learner and sending photos is the next step in my education. So...Just how does one get the pictures out of the camera and into the site?

Most likely your digital camera came with a cd. Stick it in the computer and it should automatically run and get your computer setup to receive the pictures from your camera. Then all you should have to do is connect the camera to the computer via a cable. Save the pictures to your My pictures folder and then the link in the above post (or below in my signature) should get you started. Any more specific question ask away and we will get them answered for you. :)

AAAH SO...I'll go snap some pics tomorrow and see if I can get this handled after the wifey goes to bed tomorrow night. I find that the wee hours are the best time to wrassel with the computor.

I still haven't figured out how to post pics. I have the pics on my computer and it says to open the picture and copy/paste. That's where I'm lost.

Hey, Paul! I'm down by Leschi, just above where I-90 comes into Seattle. I've recently joined up, too. I drive my "new" 1969 el Camino. Just like you, I'd always wanted one and now is the time. I'm going to do most of the body work on mine myself. I've got to replace a couple of fenders and doors, do some rust hole patching and push out a dent in the hood. Then I may tackle the paint job or find a local paint shop that can turn out factory quality paint work. Personally, I can't imagine having a show quality job that I'd have to constantly worry about - you know it's gonna get messed up somehow!
Maybe we can meet up at a BurgerMaster or similar sometime. I'm heading out to Oshkosh for the EAA Fly-in next week, but let's plan on hooking up sometime after that.
My choice for pics is to load my camera shots onto my computer using Picasa. Then I select the ones I want to display to the world and load them up to my PicasaWeb page.
from there it's easy to just copy the pictures web address and insert it here using the picture icon at the top of the message entry box.
