Hi,
I'm going to be purchasing a pair a oval chromed exhaust tips that are original and are in really good shape. I'm not sure what size exhaust they used back then, but my '72 Chevelle has a 3 inch exhaust on it. I know for sure that the tips are not 3 inches and won't fit mine, so what can I do to make them fit my 3 inch exhaust?

Thanks,
Ethan

I just installed a set on my 70 and they are 2 inches. The exhaust was 2 1/2" from the motor to the muffler and 2 inches out to the tail pipe. You could make a reducer at the end to fit the tips.

The resonators are 2-1/2" on the exit side if you have them.

Hmmm, just a thought, but you want to put 2" tips on 3" exhaust? Ever try to breath while someone was squeazing your neck? Yeah, your engine won't like it much, either. The pypes idea sounds like a winner.

I second what T.C. said, Pypes makes a stainless 3" tip that looks a lot like the stock ones.

Stainless Works also makes a nice stainless SS tip.. I agree, you wouldn't want to reduce a 3" tail pipe to 2" at the end of the road...

if they are originals they are 2.5"
