let me first preface that I just came from driving a 4 speed so this is all new to me.
I decided to go with an auto for my bbc build so I got a built 350 with hd sprag and transgo 2 shift kit.
I shift manually.
here is the problem.
after shifting into 2nd, especially under power, it holds first for like a second before going into second, breaking the tires loose.
Im just trying to get it to go into 2nd when I actually shift it.
is this normal behaviour. is there anything I can do? do I need to be letting off the gas when shifting into second?
thanks

Seun,
Last shift kit I installed was 20+ years ago...
I RECALL THEM HAVING THE FEATURE for shifting control as in shifting when you shift.

If I remember correctly, a shift kit will improve the shift quality and your gear selector only holds it in whatever gear you have selected. If you want full shift control for upshifts and downshifts, you need a manual valve body. Without the manual valve body, if you are at WOT it will upshift when it's scheduled to do so thru vacuum and line pressure regardless of the fact that you moved the selector to the next gear.

aha. that explains it. thanks
I finally got a hold of the builder and he said that they are set for drag all out drag racing, so the shift point is set high. luckily, he said I can remove the vacuum line, turn something clockwise, which should lower the shift point.
thanks

Bear in mind, what you are talking about is adjusting the vacuum modulator thru its vacuum orifice. At full throttle your shifts are controlled by the governor and will not be affected by the adjustment you refer to. The modulator adjustment is gross and will only change shift points slightly.

I have found with the trans go kits they tend to work a lil diferent then say a B&M they can even be setup so the trans auto matically shifts even if you leave the selector in low gear. as for the shifting late it is how the trans is setup by the person installing the kit it has to do with what springs they used and holes they drilled in the seperator plate. I have used several of these kits and yes you can adjust the vac to get it to shift later or erlier with no problem.
