Obvious question is what might it be worth? Seller is thinking high thirties 38-39K

No pictures = no good replys here. There are just too many variables on this request for a fair value. You'll need all the good pictures too, good pad stamp picture, TT, under carriage, under hood, I think you know the pictures needed. The more money being asked for and claims the seller is making about a car, the more they need to back it up with some good shots. P.S. it could very well be worth high 30's, but all the matching number stuff has to be there and unquestionable.

I'm thinking around 25-27 K if it's in as good of condition as it sounds.

$35-40,000 sounds good.
It costs more than that to do a body off resto. Unless you do a lot yourself, and you still have to pay yourself a wage for your time.
See if it #'s matching and if it has a buildsheet.
Other than that we'd need lots of pictures to give an honest appraisal

True if you build one yourself but the already finished 69's are not normally selling for that much right now.

Here is a real life example. My 69 SS project is virtually the same car as you are looking at. It retains every original piece other than the long block and it was replaced with a date correct 69 Chevelle 396. It also has A/C and Tach/Guages. It is frame off brand new only needing paint/body, interior , and cosmetics to be finished. I feel it can be finished for $15K, certainly less if someone can get the paint done close to reasonable. There is over $20K in the car and is for sale for $15k ,or close. The advantage of this car is it can be finished as the owner desires. And very few questions are hidden.

I can see no way the car you are looking at can be done better and am positive the motor is not. You are looking at $30K for a brand new car as opposed to close to $$40K for the one referenced. 30 days after my car is finished it might be a $27.5 car on the market. It is just the way it is. The car above after another change of ownership will depreciate the same way.

The difference in the prices is so much of the work on my car can be bought at a discount at this point. The one you are speaking of could have in excess of $45K in it. It takes a pretty special 69 to creep past $35K in this market. They just will not $$$$ up like a 70 or 67 but will certainly hold their on with the rest if everything is equal.

If you like a 69 there are some really good values out there for $30K. Good Luck.

If it's nice.......

The seller has it ballparked right. In this turbulant economical time there may be a few out there selling for less than 30K, but that's NOT the norm. If you can find a freshly restored 69 SS 4 speed that's numbers matching, a good color and nice for < 30K BUY IT!
