Ok, helping a friend put together a car he an take to the track and have some fun with on a limited budget. I have posted here before asking about this and that to try and get advice and it has been very helpful, well he has finally gathered some parts and I would like to know if the combo is gonna run or be a slug, any comments would be appreciated btw he decided not to use his nova for a bracket car because someone gave him a 71 Malibu wagon (the saga continues). The combo (this time)350 with flat tops .025 in the hole, a set of 305 H.O. heads (601's he got for free I recommended vortecs but... whatever) .015 shim, XE284H cam ( I bought his Z-60 from him for a future project)Victor Jr/750 DP, TH400/4000 stall and 4:88 gears. At this point I am just gonna help him put it together and if it runs I'll be happy (no more projects till I finish mine) graemlins/clonk.gif

Unless those 305 heads are heavily, heavily ported I would say that is a slightly mismatched combo...right when that cam will want to breathe, the heads will be all done. High 14s maybe.
His Compression might also dictate race gas...with flat-tops, shim gaskets, and 58cc 305 heads hes got to be around 10.6-10.8 CR.

I know a guy that runs 305 heads on a flat top 350..he had 1.94/1.50 valves installed,and runs an older Lunati solid.With a 3.90 rear,TH350 trans/2500 stall,and running slicks,the combo has gone 13.10 best/about 102 MPH with a high 1.8X 60 ft.

Too much cam for those heads, IMO.

..the worst offender is those 4.88's..NOT needed
4.10's would be perfect.

yeah I figured the same thing I am about to just give up till he gets some quality pieces, he's been out of racing for a while and just wants to mess around on the weekends. Maybe I could loan him my ol 454 I have that needs freshened up it has a mild cam and q-jet lose the big converter and put the 4.10's in. sounds easier to me what ya think?
