They seem to be quite reasonably priced.

Opinions?

All I know are three things. 1. I like them. 2. They were sleepers when new my high school buddy's Mom had a 66 GranSport with a Powerglide that was a burnout queen and embarassed a number of SS's and Mopars. We spent a lot of time rotating the tires to keep the wear even. 3. An Army buddy has a 70 GSX Stage III(? hotest one they made) if my memory is right it was a 455 with auto trans. Scary fast, another guy had a GTO Judge and they were about evenly matched, neither one could hook up. Our Nova ate it for lunch but the Buick it was quick.

The plus is, my wife hates muscle cars in general, and Chevelles in particular, but likes the Skylarks, esp the 68-69s. That's it, that's my in

A good looking and performing car! I always liked them. Had a 70 Skylark that was a GS clone and loved it!
A friend of mine picked up a 69GS with a 3 speed on the floor from a used car dealer really cheap when he was a senior in HS. Took it home and when His mom looked out the window at it she told him to take it back right now! Said he wasn't going to buy a car that had been backed into a tree or pole! We laughed our azzes off. He had to walk her out and show her it was the way it was made!:D

We (my parts partner) have a 69 GS 400/4 speed car stashed away awaiting resto one of these days..they are pretty cool in my book.
Plus,I still have the GS 455 Stage 1 convertible..runs like a champ.

That's right Chris, rub it in!

As for the question, I love those cars!

Well, since you asked... NO.

I like the 64-67 and 70+ Buick A-bodies, but the 68-69s are ugly IMHO.

Like Derek said, the '68-'69 body styles are a "love it or hate it" style for most people. I like them personally, but a lot of people can't get past the unusual look.

I like the 68 GS cars the least..the 69 is best of those 2 years.

growing up my mom had a 69 skylark 350. My brother thinkds it was a GS350 but I remember seeing the "skylark" emblems on it. I don`t care for the rear bumper but I`d get one just becase I grew up in one till I was about 12 or 13.

I did have a Lexus GS 400, but don't have a Buick GS 400. However, I do have a 1972 GS Stage I. Its 1 of 101 4 speed cars out of 728 made in 72. Its all original from the T3's to the gas cap and has less than 30k. Its a one owner car and was optioned like I would have ordered it, all speed with a little comfort thrown in:D

Ahhh Buicks....
These cars have a special place in my heart since it's the car that got me hooked on muscle as a baby. My Grandma owned a '68 GS350 that was her daily driver for 20 years. Can you say SLEEPER? That thing was fast even without the Big Block. My Grandfather was going to restore the car but died of cancer before he could get started on it. A friend of our family now owns it and it's apart. He's actually looking to get rid of the car now due to the gas crisis and a move to Florida.

The Buick 455 was rated at 510 ftlbs of torque dead stock, talk about a tire burner.

As reported by Motor Trend, the GS 455 Stage 1 auto was the fastest production car of 1970, followed by the Hemi Cuda and the LS6. ;)

How does one document a real GS? Are these easier to decode then Chevy regarding the VIN or trim tags? I ask because I had a line on a 70 GS455 a month ago and its still available if I want it.

The vin should start with 446370 for a 70 GS. For help decoding the trim tag and casting numbers, etc, the best Buick site is v8buick.com. Go to the "Paper Trail" section and ask away! There's a lot of helpful friendly folks over there...

You know of any sources for available options, standard equipment, etc?

This link will give you info on identifying the engine and where to look for numbers. http://buicks.net/shop/engine_ident.html

Most of the info I have is GSX specific, however the GSX is just a GS with an appearance package added. I have a GSX wholesale car order form that lists the options available for 1970 that I would be happy to email to you. It should be the same as the GS order form if you disregard the GSX package option. There really is not a good online source that I have ever found for GS specifications such as standard options, etc. As I mentioned earlier, the best place to find answers is at the v8buick site. Look for Duane or Marco. They have been collectiing this information for years and are happy to answer questions. If that GS455 that you are interested in buying has the Stage 1 option (which I would be happy to tell you how to identify), you best jump on it!!

That 50 Fastest list is incorrect,Car Craft tested tested an LS6 and it turned a 13.12@ 107.01 MPH on Goodyear Polyglas tires back in 1970. That is the fastest published ET for the 1970 LS6 Chevelle from back in the day :)
