: Best Jacking Point? '69 Chevelle.
Dan Orgill Jul 15th, 08, 1:29 PM For years I've always raised the rear of the car by placing the floor jack under the pumpkin of the differential. I installed my rear sway bar yesterday, so this isn't an option any longer.
What's the best and safest point for lifting the car now?
JYags Jul 15th, 08, 1:31 PM Frame, as shown in the factory service manual.
Stock sway bar? FWIW I installed F41 boxed control arms and sway bar and I still use the differential as my main rear lift point. Just exercise more caution on jack placement.

John, yes, I should have said, factory bar.
There just doesn't appear to be the room necessary anymore, especially with the extra thickness of a folded towel or padding of some kind on the jack ( don't want to be scratching up the 12 bolt! ).
Dan, my car is also a frame off and I cringe at the thought of using a jack on the frame. That said I slide the jack under with a towel until the two teeth evenly contact the bar, then I climb under and make sure it's not going to damage the diff. cover, I make final adjustments while I am under there, then I raise it up. The sway bar will flex a little till it contacts the diff.. I have not had a problem yet. Keep in mind this is my prerogative, right or wrong, as it works for me, others will have different opinions.
Dan I just noticed you are from Brampton, was wondering if you had Master performance install you're exhaust system?
I can post a pic. later of the car on the jack if it helps to see it.

John,
My engine is there right now being built. The exhaust will be handled by Mike and the gang as well. I have 18" Magnaflows & flowmaster 2 1/2" tails already, will have them do a set of mandrel 3" headpipes once the motor/tranny are re-installed. Long standing relationship with them, a really great bunch of people.
Dan I could not agree more, I took my '69 there and they spent hours getting it just right, 3" stainless with X pipe out the rear with stock tips, to say I was blown away is an understatement.
They tucked it up nice and totally out of sight. Very nice people indeed, very positive experience.
