I am considering getting injection for my '70 ragtop 350 engine. I have a late 80's TPI setup sitting around. Would this be a good one to go with if I sent it to Street & Performance for a makeover? Are there better setups out there? I thought about converting a Hilborn over to electronic controls. Seems like the stack length is critical on those, and I ain't cutting my hood. Anyone tried any different ones?? I'll be running flat tops, a mild cam, Trick Flows, headers, 700R4, 3.55 gears in a 12-bolt.

Usually the Camaro/TransAm/Vette guys that are running cars that were originally TPI-equipped are switched over to aftermarket top-halfs of the manifolds. At least I think it is usually only the top half that is replaced.
The downfall of the TPI is that it uses really long runners, which are great for torque but appearently they choke off the engine in higher-rpm situations.
Typically the aftermarket runners are designed closer to the LT1-type runners.
I think it really depends one what you want out of the system.
If you just want monster torque and aren't worried about High-RPM breathing capability, the TPI should do just fine. If you're looking to achieve a certain HP figure on the dyno, then the TPI might or might not work, depending one what you want to see on the dyno.
If you want to ask about the limits of the stock TPI and also ask questions about the other common GM EFI, TBI you can ask these guys: www.thirdgen.org (http://www.thirdgen.org)
