I'm not using that brand but am using the generic 817R lifters. I set them at .0015-.002" lash.

Pat how would you set them without a feeler gauge0015 002 is really thin.

With a feeler gauge. .0015" is the smallest one in my set. The instructions call for .001"-.002". It is pretty hard to get them right with poly locks. Sometimes it takes several tries.

I used them in my 454 and would preload them about 1/8 turn. I have heard of people setting them to 1/16 turn also. They have a deeper pocket to hold the pushrod in place when running them so loose. I was having a valve float problem and tried these as a possible solution. They may have got me 100-200 more rpms before valve float (around 6400 with these), but that is questionable.

I am speaking of hydraulic lifters here. I was not aware of a pro magnum solid lifter but I could be wrong.

Pro Magnums are a hybrid Hydraulic set with a very little ( or no ) pre load, some guys even set them with a slight clearance.

When calling Comp Cams I have been told by two different tech guys how to set them , one guy said .002-.004 PRE LOAD and the other told me 002-.005 clearnace !

I have tried them both ways . Now I now run them with slight pre load ( 1/8 turn ) because of aluminum head expansion.

They are noisey as hell. Do they help?? I dont know but I have run them to 7200 RPM in a 427 BB on a xe284
