What does a mechanical pump flow versus the advertised 35-40 gpm of an electric pump

Is it street or strip or both? Most here are going to recommend a mechanical due to reliability, myself included.

I have one friend running electric on the street and he doesn't seem to have a problem. That being said, he also shelled out alot more then most and got a meziere direct and had it tailored for his engine.
