I've been at this for about 3 weeks now and could sure use soom help. I have repaired serveral problems I have found, but still does't shift most of the time. Here is a recape of what I have already tried:
-vacum line to modulator valve checked to see if open by blowing through it
- modulator valve replace
- piston behind modulator was sticking, so polished- moves freely now
- govenor removed several times, piston inside of govenor was sticking, cleaned it, moves freely now.
- found nail in pan, replaced nail/pen in shift rod.
- removed valve body, found plug missing in 1-2 shift valve that came with transgo shift kit, replaced plug.
- cheched valve body, looked ok to me, but I have little experance with transmissions.

I put the tranny back togeather and replaced the fluid last night. It still does not shift most of the time when in drive. It will shift from 1st to 2nd when it wants to, but not as soon as I shift it. It will not shift into 3rd. It will shift into 3rd if I go from 3rd to 2nd! I don't know what to try next. Any other ideas?

I would first check pressures and see whats up.
Next check the shifter linkage thoroughly as well as the detent solenoid/wiring.
Then probably replace the VB.
What is the governor land diameter?

Jake, thanks for reply. I just read on line about the test for the detent solenoid/wiring and checking the shift cable adjustment. I had the shift cable off when I removed the valve body. When I went for a test drive last night, the shift handle felt off. It felt like it was moved foreward. How do you adjust this cable? Thanks, Trey
