I had posted this in another site and did not get a response, maybe someone here had the same problem and know of a fix. New vent window seals installed three years ago on our 67 two door hardtop and every couple of months they turn brownish and chalkey. I have to scrape the stuff off and the seals look good, it scrapes comes off real easy but it keeps coming back. I have used several things to try and keep them looking new and shiney but in a couple of months they look 40 years old, brownish and chalky but not cracked. Any suggestions on what to do stop the stuff from coming back or to topcoat the seals?

The vent window seals and most of all the other seals and upholstery came from Ground Up. Most of everything sat in boxes for months before anything was installed. In fact everything ordered was pretty darn good, twiked here and there, really can't complain except for the vent window seals. I was hoping someone had run into this problem before and had a fix for it, I'm not going to replace them.
appreciate any help or suggestions on what to put on the seals after I have cleaned them to keep a good appearence.
thanks

You shouldn't be having that problem if you haven't put something on them to cause it, I.E. a rubber or dressing treatment. You haven't have you? I only ask because that's what some tire treatments will cause to happen with tires. Happens on my daily driver P/U truck every time it goes thru the local car wash and they put that tire-shine crap on my tires. They look good for about 5 days then turn brownish. Be prepared for this question when talking to the supplier. If you've put ANYTHING other than soap and water on those rubber seals, they will suspect that is the cause.

Ordering the parts long before they are used is normal in this hoby and suppliers either do or should expect it. U.S. Radiator took back a defective unit I purchased over a year before I tried to install it with no issues. They sent a new one and had the old one picked up all at their own expense.

If you haven't used a "treatment" on them, I'd talk to GU and ask them if Metro etc. is their supplier and tell them you need to talk to them direct. Either that or ask GU to make the seals good.

Evening Herb, well I think you had hit the nail or me on the head, yes I did put treatment on the seals. I know that when we were doing the final detailing on the car body I did apply a treatment and every time I have cleaned the seals I have applied something different in order to keep the new shiney look. I guess I have compounded the issue each time I tried to find a solution. We have a show this coming Sunday, Friday I will clean the seals and not put anything on them, we will see where we go from there. Appreciate the guidance,
thanks
