: Need Help! Which Radiator and Fans Should I Buy?
davis95 Jul 12th, 08, 12:47 AM My engine is only lacking a radiator/fans setup and a carb now and I'm getting really ready to hear her run. I will be ordering a radiator and fan setup within the next day or two and want to make sure I don't make the mistake of buying any junk. I do realize the "Be Cool" setups are great, but I don't want to spend that much right now. What have you folks bought and what do you recommend?
sixredsoxfans Jul 12th, 08, 1:17 AM I went with the Alumitech radiator and 11" dual Spal fans for my 496. During the break in this week, the temperature did not budge above 190 degrees. No box fans, no water hoses, no water wetter and it was about 89 degrees outside when we did this. Definitely worth the money-great quality and support. Don is the MAN! Many here will vouch for that. Also, if you need a carb, I would recommend Sean Murphy Induction-another quality product.:hurray:
Bunz-T Jul 12th, 08, 5:31 AM There are many great suppliers that help all of us with support and products. Many times the question of a higher price is discussed but very seldom is there anything but rave reviews on the product. In the end they are not higher.
You are not going to buy much radiator for less than $300. Do not let $200 keep you from the best......Alumitech......
ALUMITECH REPRODUCTIONS Jul 12th, 08, 10:14 AM Thanks again guys for the good words .. im sure any informed person on the site can do a search for Alumitech Reproductions and see the results we have provided .

70SS540 Jul 12th, 08, 11:40 AM I kind of looked at it this way. I spent a ton on my over 800 hp 540. While driving around on the street, I was always seeing temps around 200 to 230+. I was CONSTANTLY looking at the temp guage worrying about how hot it was getting. And I had an aluminum rad with dual fans already in it.
Finally I said enough is enough and purchased an Alumitech rad and dual Spall fans. Awesome fit and performance. That was about 3 years ago. The temp guage is the LAST thing I look at now. It does not go over 190 no matter what. Sittin in traffic at a light on a 90 degree day or running some back to back runs at the track.
Ya, the rad and fans were pricey, but how much did I spend on the 540?? To me a few hundred to protect the real pricey 540 is well worth it! The Alumitech set up is one of the best bang for the buck investments in my car. Another + is the rad is all American stuff.
SWHEATON Jul 12th, 08, 12:12 PM It would be better if you gave us the motor size & setup ,gear ratio, and what general use the car will see so we can better sugest a rad/fan setup.

rodneylenton Jul 14th, 08, 3:39 AM Hello all
Been awhile since I had posted last, currently in sunny Iraq, but have question on fans.
One day, LOL I am going to get that F2 555 (thanks Mike for the estimate, no comes the fun part saving fo it:().
The basic idea of the engine is 555 BBC 8.5-9.0-1 AFR 335 / 357 Blowthrough with a F2 in the 14lb of boost, TH400, 4.10 gear. 60 / 40 street / strip. Full body, you know a STREET CAR:D.
My question is has anybody or does anybody know someone who has a excellent electric fan setup built around this application.
I am going to need enough air through the Air to Air Intercooler (the Procharger 1300HP) as well as the radiator.
I was looking at a Ron Davis(the first one I saw / no prefeance) set up with dual 12's, nice looking piece, like I said just wondering what else is being used. Not above tweking the core support for fit;), isn't that why we have cutting and welding equipment:thumbsup:
Thanks
Rodney

Currently a 350/700 combo is in place. Running the factory 307 gears. However, everything I'm putting in my car is geared toward the 600HP 496 that I'm building in the near future. I'll be running 373's and a narrowed rearend with this combo. So anything I buy now must work with the big block setup. I don't want to buy anything twice.:)
SWHEATON Jul 14th, 08, 11:14 PM 6oohp 496 bbc ,that may be pushing the limitsof a stock cooling system so i would call don from alumitech and get one of his rad & fan setups for a hot street perf 496,cant go wrong there and ti will cool very well.
Tell Don Scott from t/chevelle rec his hi quality hand made AL radiators ,Don also gives us a discount .
Also, you should run a hi flow w/pump like milodon sells along with a hi fow 180 deg stat too forbetter coolent flow and less likely to have hot pockets of air/steam in block too with more coolent pumping power.
