Short of the Hooker Super Comps that are a pain to install, what is a good ceramic coated header? Anyone ever seen the Hedman Elite "shorty" headers? If so, how short are they?

Thanks!

I am running shorty Mr. Gasket headers 4into1 and they produce power all along the board.

I've heard that for the price, Summit headers can't be beat for your average ride...($79 Black Jacks) and I also hear that they fit great graemlins/thumbsup.gif I'll be putting a pair on my 454, '70 :D

Does the coating on those Summits burn off?

Yes, the coating burns off quickly. The only reason the coating is their is to keep the headers from rusting on their way to your front door step. And that is ALL the black paint is for.

Small Block experience only. The Summit headers I bought 4 years ago are still hanging in there. Took a little dinging on the drivers side to clear some frame parts, nothing serious. Getting the right gaskets was another story. Ended up using stock GM gaskets. Keep an extra set in the trunk. If they blow, which they haven't in almost 3 years, just loosen the header bolts, slide the old out and the new in. In my opinion forget the big money aluminum and copper gaskets. One other thing althought this hasn't happened to me in years is that sometimes header flanges will warp. Most machine shops have a belt sander that will level them if that happens, and it doesn't cost squat to do.
