OK, here's the deal. It's not Chevelle related, but it is LT1/LS6 related.
A little background: I just bought a 10th Anniversary RX-7 and the engine popped Friday night. At 371HP to the wheels, I knew it wouldn't last long, but I was optimistic smile.gif I'm going to perform the most haneous crime (according to RX-7 and rotary engine nuts) that I can do to this car - put a V8 in it. Putting a V8 into a collector's edition RX-7 in which only 1500 were made will probably net me a lynching sooner or later.
Now, I don't want it to sound like every other V8 out there, but I don't want to go with a radical cam either. I know some of you will probably not like what I'm going to ask, but I don't know of a more knowledgable group of people to ask this question.
Can a cam be custom ground to alter the firing order to make it sound different? I'm a Chevy guy at heart, but I've got to admit that the late model V8 Mustangs (even the older 5.0) have got a very smooth and unique sound. Can a cam be ground for the LT1 or LS1 to have the same effect?
I'm leaning towards the LT1 because fitment is a little easier and the price difference is still staggering. ~$1800 vs ~$4000 with the 6 speed on each.
