I already tried the search engine. Not the answers I was looking for, so here it goes.

I want to put 17x8 all around with the same backspacing and same tire size to do tire rotations. My car is a driver, and I take it through the curvy roads almost every weekend. I can't keep up with the "ricers" with 15" wheels.

For most of the searches on backspacing, I found out for the rear, but the fronts seem to always be different.

Would a 17x8 w/ 4.75" or 5" backspacing work on the front?

Like I said I would like the same backspacing all around. Any suggestions would be great. Thank You.

Ok, so after searching alot harder on this site, I found that 4.75" will fit and clear with no problems on the front. As for the rear, 4.75" will fit, but I think I might have to do some hammering to the lip, which I don't mind.

I would like to run a 5" BS on the rear with a 8" wide rim, but will this 5" BS clear in the front? Any rubbing issues?

I saw your posts in the search, did you change out your rearend or narrow it? How bout the front? Any new controls arms?

It does look really sweet, but I think I want to lower mine more, so I think 4.5" BS seems like it would rub if I lowered it more. Just my guess.

I'm really surprized that fit too.

well, the rear lips are not cut and i have plenty of space so i could go lower if i wanted to.the fronts do not hit and theres no mods up there either.of course if you enter a driveway fast enough you are bound to bottom out once in a while.

I have 5" BS on 18x7 front and 18x8 on the back. No rub. AFX spindles in front, stock 12-bolt on back.

I would go with 17x7 on the front. 8 is a bit too wide on front for handling and steering it seemed to me, although you have get the benefit of being able to rotate all 4 tires if they are the same size. My 65 had 16x8 all around when I picked it up. Believe the backspace on the rear is at least 4.75 and the wheel wells were slightly trimmed. One of the rims got bent, so I used it as an opportunity to pick up two 16x7s for the front.

Why do you think 8" on the front is too wide for handleing? I was thinking more tread on the road, more grip for handling.

If you want to have the same width & backspaced wheels so you can rotate them on a 64-65,then I would run 17x8's w/5" all around. 5" is probably going to be a smidgen too much for the front but a 1/4" disc brake spacer will solve that problem.

Maybe better handling for road racing where you need more traction, but for normal driving the wider tires on front don't seem to benefit steering or handling. Maybe I just need to upgrade my steering and suspension, but I like skinny tires on front like drag racers.

Even if its a little too much, its will probably only come into play when parking (near full-lock)...

On my '66, I had 6.0" BS, but I had C5 discs (stock spindles) and a thin spacer. Still calc'd to be about 5.5" BS (compared to stock drum setup). The only sign of "inside" rubbing was the sway bar (paint "polished" off in one spot).

I had 275/40-17, so maybe a taller tire might rub the back of the inner fender.

I had Hotchkis 1" lowering springs...

I wanted to run the same wheels all around too, but the disc swap/wheels I used necessitated the deeper front BS, and the 6" BS in the rear (stock '66 rearend) was tucked in too far for my taste...
