: Home garage 4 post car hoist ???

Anybody here have a 4 post car hoist in their home garage ?? I am looking to put an addition on my garage and add another 1 1/2 car garage to my existing 2 car garage. I would like to accommodate a 4 post drive on car hoist so I can store an additional 2 cars. A while back I had seen a HORSEPOWER TV show that discused car hoists and they showed one that had removable panels that were between the rails. They were used so that if a car that was on top had any kind of leakage of oil or what have you that it wouldn't leak down onto the car below. Does anybody know of any maufacture that sells what I am describing ??? Thanks...

Do ya mean like the one in the clickable thumbnail below? We have one in our detached garage in the back yard. The Chevelle usually parks on it, and raises high enough to park a Subaru wagon with ski/bike racks under it. Note in the picture that it's not even half way up...

You can buy a chinese one for $2000 if you feel lucky, but there are numerous reports out there of design, fabrication, and material failures. I bought a made-in-USA Backyard Buddy for $5500 delivered to our home, and the quality and design made it worth it to me. The company I work for builds the best industrial equipment of its type in the world, and the Backyard Buddy quality is every bit as good. I am completely confident around and under this lift. The design truly is superior to the others out there.

The problem is, once you have a lift, you have to start cleaning the bottom of the car too

Make sure you build tall enough to raise the lift with a car on it. I have a friend who didn't check and his rustang has a chopped roof on it now!

Does yours have removable drip panels that get installed between the rails ??? So that a car on top that may have a leak dosent leak on the car below ?

I have a four post that was made in America and was no where near $5500.00. Here's their website; www.aresco.org They delivered and installed the lift for 3K We also bought the optional wheels so it can be moved around which is real handy. It comes with plastic drip pans, I opted for the steel jack for possible future use. We put some plywood between the rails and store low items just to keep the shop floor clear.

That $5500 price included a rolling jack bridge, castors, and drip pans that are heavy gauge steel brake pressed and welded in the corners. They are very, very strong. Not that the accessories are worth the difference... Also, remember that steel prices took giant price increases in the last year or so. I just got mine. How much is your car worth? Or the car under it? Or the building it's sitting in? How much is your health insurance deductible? Or other more morbid considerations?

Call it paranoia, but I had too many mechanical engineering classes to not buy a BYB after I compared structural designs. They have a video at www.backyardbuddy.com (http://www.backyardbuddy.com) that is pretty interesting. Y'all who already have a different lift, I don't recommend watching it :noway:

The more I look at the BYB the more I am getting convinced that it was the one I saw on the HORSEPOWER TV show. What did you have to do to the garage door to get it to go up high enough and not hit a car that is already up in the air with a car underneath ? I take it you dont have a garage door opener....

I've got a 4 post Rotary Lift. It has the pans you asked about. I installed mine on a slab next to the garage...........but weather isn't much of a problem here...........

In the interest of getting a comparison, here is some more sales propaganda refuting most of the claims of the BYB video.

I have a 10k 2 post Bend Pak. I opted for the bigger size for my paranoid safety reasons :)

JWA- Hey, that's pretty cool counter-pointing! Some of it is just spinning words the opposite direction BYB did, but I see some of their points. The BYB video doesn't look like it's comparing to a Bend-Pac, aren't Bend-Pacs all blue(?) I am still comfy with the BYB. I like the tube enveloping design, it can't fail.

wild72- The door is about 11' high once it rolls up onto the overhead rails. I have an opener, but it's in the center. The garage is 40' deep, so the lift is positioned such that the roof of the car is in front of the door in its up position.

Just bought a Revolution 4 post lift:

http://www.revolutionlifts.com/

It's made by Rotary. Cost a bit more than the Back Yard Buddy, but I like Rotary stuff.

It has the drip pans. I bought two - one for the diff and one for the the oil pan. They're heavy duty plastic and slid back and forth in slots on the inside of the rails so you can position them where ever you'd like. I bought this one to park cars on, so no other accessories to speak of.

I also have a 2 post Rotary for mechanical work. Less interference.

how do you like the Bend Pack. I'm ready to place my order next week for the 9000 one. was it tough to assemble? does it seem sturdy? what else could you tell me? the one I am looking at on ebay is $2710 delivered from SC.

I didn't mean to sound harsh. You're right, you can wrap up a bunch in accessories. Air jacks for both ends, on and on. The place I bought it at has lifts made in China for the guys with a low budget. I wouldn't park my car under it but it's still usable. I bought a two post 9000 lb and the four post at the same time, maybe got a better price, who knows.

I wonder why I waited so long to get a lift. Me, my Dad (previously licensed LV electrician), and my Honda tech buddy had my lift up and running in about 4 hours. I drilled the concrete holes the day before ( Home Depot "rental" Hammer drill). It lifts my 3/4 ton burb like it is not even there.

I dealt with ASE deals (asedeals.com) and the process was smooth and a reasonable price. I may buy a 4 post in the future for more indoor storage. It will be a Bend Pak.

Horsepower TV is currently using a Backyard Buddy 4-post lift. Some years ago, the shop they film in was using a 4-post lift made by Eagle Equipment. I believe most, if not all 4-post lifts, have removable panels in between the ramps.

I have an Autolifters M-80 (so does TC'er Dan Williams "will02") purchased before they went bankrupt and then became reincarnated by their employees as "Allamericanlifts.com". Removable center panels, ramps, caster wheels, rolling jack tray...works like a champ and I TRUST the locking system. Probably the most fail-safe locking system I've seen around.

We have an Eagle model 7000XLT, translates to it can lift 7000 lbs., and is slightly a larger lift. The way they designed the rails (2) it has an inside lip that can hold a drip pan(s) from the distance of the two lips (rails). It is hydraulic and has paw stops in the event the hydraulics ever fail that paw stops would keep it up. We never had a problem and we have had it for 6 years or so. Paid about $3,300 I think delivered. Note: Be prepared to have a folk lift or 6-8 strong men to get the packaged assembly off of the truck.

I recently installed a BendPak 4-post and consider it one of the best investments I've ever made. There is more info and pix of the installation here: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206024

Good luck with your lift.

My Bend Pack arrived and is installed. I had a lift installer come and set me up for $500 cash. While I have a lot of life insurance, my wife still insisted on a professional install as a part of the deal.

Wound up buying it from ASCE for $2600 +/- delivered with 3 drip pans.

A very nice SAFE unit if you are in the market for one. :hurray:

I was going to get this one....I can drive 35 minutes to Delaware and pick it up. I already went and looked at it in the showroom. It looks pretty well built to me.
