Is anybody running slicks on late model(78-87) Malibu? I am running 28x9x15 Hoosiers now but the 468 inch big block could use something wider. Any ideas on tire size and wheel width and offset would be appreciated.

Thanks,

A buddy has an 80 Cutless (SBC powered) and the largest he can fit is 28/9-15. Another buddy has a 78 or 79 Malibu. With a notched frame I think he is using 30/10-15 but I'm not sure about that. The real issue is section width. I think a Hoosier has a narrower section width for the same tread as a M/T.

I have a 78 Malibu I run a 71 12 bolt it is 3" wider. My wheels have a 1.5" offset to compensate for the rear end. The slicks I run are 28x10.5/15 MT ET Drags. I had to notch the rear fram rail and weld in a piece of steel for support.

There's a good tech/faq section on Phil's site. I wrote a couple articles he hosts on just that subject. He also has a good message board specifically for the Malibu's & A/G bodies.
