I have a 68 Chevelle Malibu that has never had air conditioning. I am wanting to put a/c in the car and I was wondering what a good system would be to put in the car? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Joe,

I have a Vintage air system on my 66 for 9 yrs now, never had a problem with it or even added refrigerant to it since.

I am just finishing the installation on my 68 ss 396 and have a thread running just a week or so ago on a few problems I encountered. If originality is not an issue for you, you cant beat Vintage Air- simple, compact and a good price. If originality is an issue, you will have to go through your entire system. I replaced my condensor, evaporator, POA valve, compressor, expansion valve, had all the door seals replaced on the unit, new hoses- I bet I spent upwards of $1500. Parts were hard to find at times but are all available once you know where to look. The cooling is good but originality was an issue.

Othewise...... I would have done vintage-open one box....its all there

I think it depends on what you want...

Vintage Air is good for a hidden hose setup as they run all the hoses out through the side kick panel vent then out the firewall through the original blower hole. Hooks up to original control panel in dash too.

Classic Air does not try to hide the hoses so they are good if you want to keep your side kick panel vent functional. They also hook up to original control panel in dash. They make a big deal about having seperate heat and cool cores in the unit so the A/C cannot freeze your heater core.

Aside from those aspects, a lot is the same whatever way you go. They all tend to use the same Sanden compressor for example.
