Excellent paperweight but I would not consider putting it on anything I built :D

My preference would be a stock one over that & I rarely ever use stock ones,,

I would give you my opinions on that particular piece but I don't want the thread removed so,,, :D

If you want an opinion of what type of damper to run call Oliver, Bryant, Winberg, Callies, Scat,,, the list of crank manufacturers goes on & ask them.

Call almost any builder of cup or Busch engines or practically every performance engine builder that has done some research on dampers, especially endurance type engines & ask what they recommend.

Check & see what 100% of the NASCAR guys are running & if you can get a direct answer from the crank guys I know the answer.

I can pretty much guarantee it will not be a fluid anything & definitely not a cheap knockoff of unknown quality ;)

The job of the damper is to protect the crank & in my shop at least it will be what the people who design & manufacture cranks recommend,, it will not be something that can go bad & the only way you know if it has is when the crank is in less than one piece.

Even with a stock damper at least you can see if it has a problem.

Of course, you are always welcome to run what someone has gotten away with without problems & assume that this is a good recommendation too

Of course all the above is just my "unbiased" opinions on dampers :D

CAT products are problems from what I've heard. I bought a neutral balanced steel flywheel from them and brought it to my machinist for balancing the rotating assembly and it needed to be resurfaced and rebalanced, it was way off. Makes me wonder if we should use it at all. I hate the thoughts of a flywheel coming apart, (jap steel). Nothing but failures with the roller rockers and lifters they produce as well- from what I've heard. We've also got their stud girdles on, hope they'll be alright. :( Bob
