depley Jul 3rd, 08, 11:27 PM which one is that? I know I had one like the USA-1 in red white and blue one back around 73, I had to go to a certain dealer in Minneapolis Mn to even get it. Not all dealers had them.

69396ss Jul 8th, 08, 7:54 AM $160 was cheap on that 72 Plate. He made an error when he listed it and didn't referance 1972.
I'm sure he missed alot of exposure on it. I could see it hitting $250.
The Other $150 star splangled USA-1 was a mid 70's plate. The only people looking for that correct application would maybe be the Vette guys.

The "he" is the ebay power seller you're replying to.
"he" is promoting his stuff for sale on this forum. :clonk:
69396ss Jul 8th, 08, 10:11 AM I see.... Well "He" lost money on the auction due to his listing error.
Sometimes forsight and Ad Copy planning is better than being slightly tricky :D
dyno jonn Jul 8th, 08, 11:46 AM .....and those aren't even the expensive plates. :noway:
toomanymodz Jul 8th, 08, 12:08 PM I was bidding on a USA1 plate (NOS) and it ended up going for $159 (I didn't win it).
Here is a plate that looks just like it for much less. Why the big price difference? Both plates were from the 70's I think.

This one still has the original envelope.
ls6ragtop Jul 8th, 08, 12:24 PM I don't know which version you bid up to $159 on but the one in the link you posted is a very common plate made from aluminum that normally doesn't fetch more than $25-$30 on eBay. The aluminum versions were issued from the later part of the 70's right through the 80's and are really quite common. The heavy steel plates are a totally different story.........

toomanymodz Jul 8th, 08, 12:27 PM Is this one the heavy steel plate or cheap aluminum?

The photo of the backside looks like galvanized steel, but it's hard for me to tell.

MrGoodpliers Jul 8th, 08, 12:38 PM The steel ones are green on the back.
jfkheat Jul 8th, 08, 5:33 PM I thought it was against the site rules to post links to your own auctions to promote them. I guess Mr Rohn snuck this one by the mods.

Shevelle Jul 8th, 08, 5:37 PM I guess Mr Rohn snuck this one by the mods.

ls6ragtop Jul 8th, 08, 8:18 PM Matt,
Both of those plates are the aluminum later versions. If you want a red ,white and blue version that was made from heavy steel, look for one with 3 hyphens between the letters U-S-A-1. This design was a steel version. Still a mid 70's plate. The white with gold letters versions are generally much more desireable.

Rich-L79 Jul 8th, 08, 10:56 PM I've got two of the aluminum USA-1 plates from the '70's. I know the dates, cause that's when I bought them from a Chevy dealership! If they are going for those kinds of prices, maybe I should sell them and buy some wiring for the wagon project!
