I have a fairly trick street/strip 1972 Chevelle with a 454, turbo 400, and 12 bolt. The suspension is pretty stiff: boxed control arms, urethane bushings, and no hop bars. I'm just finishing a frame off and have some suspension questions? How much clearance is acceptable between the floorboards and the front of the driveshaft (especially the front U-joint which is 3/4" from the floor boards)? If necessary what steps should I take to provide more clearance? Thanks guys.

3/4 is plenty, seems like I have about the same with my T400 and shaft with 1350 yoke and joints. The loop will catch it if were to ever break. Have never had a problem with the clearence being an issue.

how far up is your driveshaft (in degrees?) You will need to deal with that when you set pinon anyway..

3/4 inch sounds fine. the only real clearance issues i had with the driveshaft was with the x pipe. if you use an x or an h pipe, just suspend the rear tires of the floor before you weld the exaust sustem up and make sure the shaft dosent hit. Dave
