I thought my crank kit was a completely refinished crank, or a new refurbished crank. My bolt hole was pretty warn down before, it needs to be re-threaded. Just wondering what size tap to buy, I know alot of you guys have done this. Thanks!

1/2x20x 1 1/2 bolt so 1/2 x 20 tap. If you've threaded the wrong bolt in there that could explain why the balancer didn't go on. Or you have two problems. You can buy a grade 8 bolt at the hardware store. Or even a better fastener. If that tap doesn't go easy then take the crank to your machinist or have someone take a look. You should get a small amount of oily dirt at the most with no metal shavings. There's a big load on the front of the crank from the accessories.

The bolt I had was a new ARP I think, it was the right one, the crank threads were just torn all to heck, I thought it would be a 1/2" tap. Well I'll start here, problem central =)

Try to get a blind tap if you can. It is squared off at the end and allows you to get all the threads clean, completely down to the bottum of the thread.

It might just be the first couple threads. A lot of the cheap pullers will do some damage.

Yeah It was mostly the front threads, they were completely wiped away. I gave it a go last night, they cleaned up pretty nicely. Should be fine now, thanks for the info and tap sizes :D
