rollbar pics (http://fp1.centurytel.net/mgalbr/images/Bobs_Rollbar/DSCF0074.JPG)

S&W kit,,,fit great, used 3M seam sealer to make the interior dust proof around the holes we had to cut in the floor to get to the frame,,didnt have time to paint, going to try brushing it black and see how that turns out. You can see all the pics by changing the number in the link from 64-74. Thanks Garret, you did an excellent job graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I see you kept the bench seat too! What shifter are you running with that bench front? Ive been thinking at some point I might get a floor shifter but thought that I would have to make a raised mount to get the handle height up high enough.

I have the B&M Megashifter(had to edit, originally had starshifter),,,works and fits great,,,seat don't slide up as easily with the bar but I'm 6'3", don't need to slide it forward.

I'm only able to see one photo. Can you post a link? I've been wanting to add a four or six point bar to my 69 El Camino. The shop in Dallas that did my chassis work & Viper T56 install, Joe Wilson Race Cars, quoted me $900 for a chromoly six point. I wasn't sure if that was a good price or not and since I couldn't decide whether to swap the bench seat for some race seats, have twiddled my thumbs about which way to go.

However,I found a local shop doing race car fabrication a couple of weeks ago and the owner quoted me $275/installed for a four point and $375/installed for a six. Looks like I'm going to keep my bench seat for now and have them install a six point w/door bars. Sure can't complain about the price. Will post a photo or two when I get it installed and painted.

Clint, if you change the number in the link, URL or address bar you can see them all. The S&W kit cost 169 plus 44 for the pro street bars(go down thru the package tray) then about 60 for shipping, its a mild steel bar but you couldnt ask for a better fit. I was quoted 7-800 by the resident chassis guy, so just hired Garret, so he could buy parts for his race car smile.gif

How thick is the plate that is tached to the floorboard? I assume that gets welded all the way around too right?

ITs just sheet metal that we used to cover the hole in the floorboard that we had to cut out so the bar could be welded all the way around to the frame. We just spot welded so as to not warp the floor and used 3M quick & firm seam sealer all around the sheetmetal and around the rollbar so no dust or dirt could get in the car.

Arre there any roll cage manufaturers that produce kits with removeable braces? For example if I want to use the car as a weekend cruiser with the bars out where the reinforcement isnt neccesary, but take it to the track and put the bars in when max torque forces will be experienced?

Who are some good manufacturers of roll cages?

S&W Kit ?? Sorry, brain fart

Yes S&W kit with the pro street bars, which cost a little extra but well worth it, in order to keep the back seat. You can put swing out sidebars but i chose not to because they rattle to much cruising the neighborhood smile.gif

Bob,

Is it all Tig Welded in? I'm just curious, I'm in Welding and Pipefitting school right now, and am practicing in my free time Tigging Moly.

Looks real nice, Tell Garret hi! You guys will have to come up to K.C. sometime.

Matt

Garret mig welded it, its a mild steel bar. The fit was great and went together suprisingly fast, just hope I never have to find out if it works as far as landing on my head :D , sure hope it stiffens the chassis for better 60ft times graemlins/thumbsup.gif gonna find out this weekend.

Or make them removeable altogether so friendly 'guests' can get into or out of the car without hassle ;)

Phil, we used a 2' x 2' piece of sheet metal between the bar and headliner, I wasnt too concerned about the headliner since it has a small hole that the previous owner poked in it. It worked great, we also used cardboard to protect the door panels, rear panels and upper portion of the backseat. I think we had the cardboard almost catch fire one time :( , but all in all it was a straight forward and fairly easy install,,,right Garret :D

Thanks Tony, its gonna be hard to judge, had a 1.579 on my one and only pass with the new motor so far. If it drops signicantly I'd have to say it helped...like a 1.50 :D
