Hey guys,
I have a '67 Elky that's hitting the low 11's and will soon be running 10's. The track officals have mentioned that I need to start looking for a roll bar (IHRA). I have looked at various companies that sell roll bar kits, but none have a kit listed for a '67 Elky. Do any of you know of a company that makes a kit for my Elky?
Thanks,
Daniel

A Roll Bar kit for the same year Chevelle is probably what you would use, either that or have one made.

Boy, you IHRA guys have it nice. The moment my 67 Elky broke 11 I had to put a roll bar in. I don't know if a Chevelle kit will fit. I had a custom one built. It's probably best to call the mfgs to get their take. There may be enough differences that you would have to do a lot of modifications to the kit.
I went with a 5 point (NHRA legal) with a swing out bar. The doors on an Elky are rather short making crawling in difficult. I replaced the rear window with Lexan and used a racing seat. Head room was an issue since with a helmet there is very little room. You can take a look it at my site linked in my sig.

Thanks Pat,
I have had the pictures of your roll bar saved on my computer since you first posted them last year.
Summit has a kit for a 67 Chevelle for $159.00 (Competition Engineering). This is a great price and I doubt anyone locally would build me a roll bar for this price. I would rather buy an inexpensive kit.

Without doubt that is a whole bunch cheaper than a custom bar.

If you have anyone around that can bend tubing abd all your asking for is a " Roll Bar " I would atleast ask them what they would want to bend the tubing. ( it surely wont hurt ). I do know that around here the price of tubeing has doubled in the last 6 months.

Touch base with S&W Racecars. Don Scholl and his sone Kevin were very helpful to me and I bet they could hook you up with a cage for your Elky.
I installed one of their kits in my 68 Camaro and the fit was excellent. Good quality stuff -- you don't want to cheap out on a roll bar, they don't all fit the same.
The link below has their phone number on it, I'd give them a call.
