A friend of mine has this car..with around 60,000 miles..while driving it suddenly seems as though the transmission goes out..starts runs but won't move in any gear including reverse.fluid doesn't seem burnt..no noise prior to this problem..was quoted $2500 for R&R ..is there anything else that could cause this rather than the trans going out?..

They need to take the car to a good shop that has the proper diagnostic equipment to find out what is wrong with it. It sounds like an electronics problem, but I am not a trans specialist either. A good shop should at least be able to get some idea of the problem before they have to R&R the trans.
