well got a tall block and while I may not be able to make it a 572 it is interesting to note that when Chevy stepped up to the plate they used a tall block on their Bad Boy anyone know the differences just wondering thanks Ben

Isn't the 572 a genuine bowtie block, Gen 5 (or 6, whatever)

I'm wondering if it isn't just an 8100 Vortec BB motor block??

How does it fit in here??

To all, the new 8100 is a completely bifferent animal than all previous big block chevies. It has new equally spaced ports like a LS-1 and everything inside is different as far as i know. There is an article on this engine in one of the car books some back. The 572 crate motor is like the other tall deck big blocks.

I believe the larger ones have siamesed bores allowing them to bore larger. That is the diff.

I have never seen an 8100 block, but figure that if GM wanted to, they could take semi-finished 8100 blocks and probably put Mark IV, and Gen. V and VI heads on them by drilling the needed head bolt pattern if they wanted to so there you go, a regular tall deck, 572 motor UNLESS there are other differences I DON'T KNOW about???

Please tell me how else the blocks differ so I will know and not bring it up again...

There are quite a few differences between the MARK 4 , GEN 5 , GEN 6s and the all new Vortec 8100s. A short article on the new 8.1 liter engine can be found on pages 32-34 of the December 2002 Hot Rod Magazine. Quite a few things are interchangable between the first three but the new 8.1 has a lot of changes. Widened pan rails, different heads, etc.
