: Cool yard sale find!
Jim Mac Jun 30th, 08, 9:47 AM this lady bought a locker at a locker auction and had a bunch of old junk. Of course since I cant resist old junk I couldnt help myself. Picked up two powder measures and dies for a 30.06. Do I reload? no. but for 5 bucks why not (going on craigslist). Bunch of old chisles from sweden with auger drill bits, Ice tongs, craftsman tool box for 5 bucks. And coolest thing, what turns out to be a old samurai sword for 2 bucks! Some guy already offered me 200 bucks for the thing, and I dont even know how old it is. To me it looks like a POS without the handle, but its got the hand guard and these sword collectors look at these things like we look at old chevelles. They actually restore them, install handles etc. Pretty interesting, but really not my thing. I've sent a few pics to some people, and going to meet a guy that might shed some light as to what it is or how old it might be.

Gotta love a good deal
DOn't sell to the guy offering $200. Odds are it's worth at least 5X that.
Cameano Jun 30th, 08, 11:59 AM Nice! I doubt I'd have any luck buying storage lockers, I'd get the junk. ;) I did pick up a late 70's, early 80's BMX bike last weekend at the semi-annual auto parts swap meet at the local college. I almost missed it, had walked past it at least 5 times. I was walking back to the car and spied it buried in some other bikes. I only noticed it because it had plastic "mag" wheels, and my son has been looking for a set to go on his old Haro BMX bike he's got torn down for a paint job. Picked the bike up for $20. The wheels are 6 spoke OGK's. Turns out, my son likes this bike better than his old Haro, since it's more 'ol school. A quick search tells me some people pay upwards of $100 for those old wheels in good shape. Now my son's buddies are out scouring garage sales looking for old bikes. ;)
OrrieG Jun 30th, 08, 2:31 PM Find someone who knows about the sword. My Dad has one that he took of a Japanese officer that he has been offered 2K for.
Jim Mac Jul 1st, 08, 12:14 AM I found a forum about swords, I sent a guy pictures and he said that IF its a real one, and so far 3 people looking at the photos all think so. It's a style that was made starting around 1670. These guys are like corvette restorers. Its got to be the correct polishing powder, oil, etc. to be right. I think I may give someone over there a heart attack, because I want to use WD40 to keep it from rusting. If I do find out some more about it, I'll post it up as its kind of interesting. Jim
