: Status on current quality of plastic inner fenders?
Alan F Jun 29th, 08, 10:43 AM I want to use plastic inner fenders on my restoration ('69). I have experience with the inferior ones that were produced more than 5 years ago which I do not care to repeat. I've seen several suppliers refer to selling 'new and improved' plastic inner fenders.
My questions:
Does anyone have experience with a quality reproduction plastic inner fender that fits?
If so, where did you get it from?
Thank you in advance.
70ChevelleRagtop Jun 29th, 08, 12:14 PM I'm interested in knowing this too as these are on my shopping list...
Dan Orgill Jun 29th, 08, 12:58 PM Last time I saw a set was about 5 years ago, and they were far too shiny. I didn't look at any details beyond that as that was a big flaw and I went with steel.
Keith Tedford Jun 29th, 08, 1:49 PM The ones that I saw a few years ago were a joke. I went with steel as well. At least the '69s could come either way.
Alan F Jul 2nd, 08, 8:03 PM I am surprised the issue didn't generate any more chatter. Maybe if I add an Ebay item to discuss. Does anyone know anything about these (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-72-CHEVELLE-PLASTIC-INNER-FENDER-WELLS-PAIR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713Q2em153Q2el126 2QQcategoryZ6763QQihZ014QQitemZ330247515998)?

This has been discussed quite a bit over the years here.

I bought a pair for my '70 Elky from them a couple of years ago. I didn't make a study of it at the time but the material weight or thickness was comparable to the originals that they replaced. The matte finish appears to be right on.
The repops did not have Made In Canada molded in as the originals did.
Now, with that said, I definitely had problems with holes lining up. It could have been the car and not the liners - I really couldn't say.
Robinls5 Jul 4th, 08, 1:10 AM My 70 came with the " Made in Canada " inners. Bought a set of Chevy replacements from a Chevy Dlr. They were not bad lasted 14-15 years.
Then started cracking. Plastic inner fenders are fine -- IF -- you have the org. hardware. Using todays repo mounting hardware designed for steel, You can crack your new plastic inners while mounting them.
The org. hardware---- The plastic inner was not bolted solid to the cowl. The bolts were pulled down tight and the plastic was floating behind the special washers designed for the 70 plastic inner fenders.
I have a lot of the org. plastic mounting hardware, I also have copied the old stuff and made new washers.

Alan F Jul 4th, 08, 3:37 PM Thanks for the feedback Bob. Is it possible that you have or could post pictures of the difference in the hardware?
I guess I'm going to just buy a pair of the plastic inner fenders just to lay my hands on them.
Thomas_Mac Jul 4th, 08, 4:28 PM I bought a set in january for my 69 2 door, the catalogue said that they were discontinued but i guess they have them now, i got them from antiquechev.com, the guy on the phone did warn me they werent very good but i needed inner fenders. The fit and finish is not very impressive and those guys called me back and wanted my opinion when i got them installed as they had already had one complaint about how they fit. I can go out and get you pictures if youd like

Those look FAR superior to the ones i have, the moulding on mine is very sloppy and they dont even fit around the outer fenders that well and dont have battery tray bolt holes, good to see someone is making some nice ones
