Rebuilt the Quadrajet on my cousins 67 camaro that I was asking about and have a little problem. It wouldn't run when you went to give it gas. Turns out the accelerator pump is stuck down in the carb a 1/4" to far and isn't always in contact with the lever that the throttle activates. Sorry if there is any confusion. What do I have screwed up with the accelerator pump?? I can pull it up with needle nose pliers but it works its way back down after you rev it up. Thanks for the info in advance.

Must've forgot to put the return spring in, it goes in the carb first then the pump plunger.

I agree. That's pretty much the only way what you described can happen.
