Afriend is builing a 502 that came out of a boat to put in his 69 z, can't find a flywheel or oil pan that will work, it is a m-21 tranny(is an original 396 car) any ideas on which parts he needs? His builder is having trouble finding coorect parts so i said i would ask on here. The 502 originally had a blower on it, motor was rebuilt, he isn't sure of the compression yet, guy said it was over 9 to 1, I would think it would more than likely be in the 8 range but I don't know how the guy pu ti together.

Orange,
What about the flywheel that came on it ? Most marine engines have a manual transmission flywheel on them. The coupler bolts to the same holes as a pressure plate would. The 502 is an externally balanced engine and uses a specific flywheel. If you dont have the one that came on the engine, they are available through GM Performance Parts, or Mercruiser. As far as the oil pan goes, you just need to get a pan that fits the GenV-6 engines and will fit in the car. A number of manufacturers make them, including GM as far as I know.

Thanks billk, I will ask him what happened to the flywheel, for some reason the builder said it wouldn't work. This can't be the first 502 put in a 69 camaro, but it is obviously the first one this guy has done. I will talk to him tonite about this more.

Flywheels for 502 are available from many aftermarket sources. GM sells a nodular iron one for the 502, 14" diameter, 11" clutch, part #14096987. Same situation for the oil pan, GM has Gen V & VI 4 quart pan that fits early Camaro and Chevelle, part #12495360.
