: Drag Racing w/ air ride?

I have heard that it is not legal to race with a full air ride suspension. Is this really true? Are there any NHRA rules against it? I have seen a couple drag cars with air bags on the front but they had coil-overs on the rear. Would there be any disadvantages to running a full air ride? Air Ride sells a four link setup that I was looking at: http://airride.com/productinfo/air4link_parallel.asp just wondering if this is legit. I wouldn't want to do anything that would keep the beast off the track. Thanks.

Does anyone know anything about this? I posted in suspension as well with no luck. Please give me some info if there is any out there.

I would think there would be at least 1 disadvantage. Weight. Other than that they say Air Ride is the best ride. I'm curious if there would be any wheel hop? I am also considering Air Ride, if I had the $$$$$. Maybe send this question into Super Chevy as well. Tell them they can use your car as a test vehicle. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I think I read somewhere that you can't have an active suspension. Airbags would be very close to traction control if you programmed it to have the correct launch properties and then after getting down the track you could lower it for reduced wind resistance. I though of the same thing and that is the info I found.

I was talking to a friend who has owned many air ride suspensions. He said it might not be legal because if you had a failure then you would quickly loose control. Just a thought, let me know what you all think. I really want to bag the beast but I don't want it to keep me off the track.

Why don't you email the tech director for Div 2. JCollins@nhra.com

In the front, I can envision air bags being a problem. They don't store energy like a coil spring does which would limit front suspension extension and ultimately limit weight transfer to the rear tires. I'd guess the air bags would work OK out back, but the front setup would be my concern.

Upper AND Lower tubular control arms, nice!! I might just have to try this out. But I'm trying to figure out which style spindles to purchase for a disc brake setup. What if you pumped up the air bags in the front all the way like the old straight front axle Willy's used to be?
