hey guys i almost got my first 10 second pass in my car till it started breaking up and then POP!!
it quit looky at what i found when i got towed back to the pits!! oppps redface.gif

http://www.geocities.com/igotta71@sbcglobal.net/carnage.JPG

here is the time slip incrementals
rt.. 509 :D
60ft.. 1.521
330.. 4.437
1/8.. 7.022
1/8mph.. 96.34
1000ft.. 9.373
1/4.. 11.338
1/4mph..118.34

obviously i broke about 800-1000 ft mark and coasted to the finish on the last bracket day of the year and this was in time trials luckily there is a parts store within 10 miles of the track and i was able to fix the problem and managed to go 2 rounds that night but i really wanted a 10 second slip  oh well there is always next year graemlins/sad.gif
p.s. the cause of the cap-plosion is a pre-race new trans dipstick install.. i must have jarred the cap when beating the dipstick into the trans

Been there done that. Had a little skip bout half way thru second gear. Threw the screw out of the rotor made a nice hole in the cap.

That's what happens when you have to spin the RPMS so high on those mouse motors... ;) :D

Sorry to hear it happened during a bracket event. At least it's an "external" part. Might better pick up some Loc-Tite to hold that puppy down! smile.gif

yeah i guess i was lucky :D
well while we are at it i had to advance the timing almost 20degrees to get back to my setting.. could i have twisted the distributor shaft? i have not taken it out to investigate i will next week
or could the new cheapy be out of wack ??
p.s. the distributor itself never moved from the damage we had to advance it to get my total timing back to original and my distributor is a msd billet points style cap

bryan, nothing about the cap affects the timing. the position of the distributor body determines the timing. Possibly the dist body twisted during the cap explosion?

I posted the story once about the guy that had a new '69 or so Super Cobra Jet Torino that pulled to a race somewhere, I want to say Texas??

Anyway, the builder was along and set the Vertex Mag. but forgot to fasten it down tight and half way down the track it moved like 180 degrees, then fired, and the block split the middle four cylinders about a 1/4" gap in the webbing between them from top to bottom!!

I never seen such a screwed up piece a sh-t for a block in my life!! The cam was like in four sections.

You talk about words being said back home between the owner and the builder!!!

Boy, you were lucky!!!

yeah thank you tom i was almost there graemlins/angry.gif
there is always next year to damn cold to race now :(
I know for a fact the distributor housing NEVER moved as i have it marked for quick reference for removal however i just removed it and now the main tower of the dist. looks to be just a slight amount bent down just a hair to the eye i will put a straight edge on it tomorrow but could this be the culprit for my timing off by 20deg!!
also the weights appear to be kind of f-ed up too i never replaced them just the springs or could it be the springs as i did not have the MSD springs at the track i was forced to use the autozone advanced curve kit :( springs ?? i dont think that is the prob since i lost my initial timing too ..car would not idle for sh#t after the blast until we advanced the dist.
let me know what you all think i also will post a pic of the dist. gear as i dont know what a good wear on the gear looks like ?
thanks ya'll
