I am thinking of putting my airconditioner system on my 72. Where can I find a picture of the compressor and all brackets for a 72 with a 307? Is there any way to test teh compressor without installing it? It is not locked up.

Thanks,

you can test a system by hooking up a vacuum pump and seeing if there are any leaks. As for the compressor if it turns freely without making any noise it may be fine.

But always pull a vacuum and test the system prior to charging, saves a lot of time and money that way. It should hold that vacuum for at least 30 minutes.

My experience is there seems to always be a leak and you end up replacing most everything. I just did that a couple weeks ago on my 72 sports sedan, in the end it cost me about $1000 to replace the compressor, condensor, control valve, dryer, and hoses., plus belt and high heat switch. Plus having it vacuum tested once (found leak) then back and charged. I stuck with R12 becasue I had 3 cans of it. I don't think the POA valve in these old cars likes the high pressure of R-134a, so I would change that out as well if going to r-134a.

Like DeWayne was just saying, the price can really add up, especially, if your car didn't originally have air. The heater box is different, the ducting inside is different, and I betting there are other things as well. If your car didn't originally have it, and you aren't concerned about originality, you might be money, time, and frustration ahead to go with a Vintage Air system, or another after market system, if there is any other one.

My 2 cents worth.

Thanks guys. It is an A/C car and I got all the parts wehn I bought it. I am debating if I want to try to get the A/C working. It would have been nice on the ride to Chevellabration.

Thanks again

For me getting a/c working is ALWAY worth it lol, in Georgia its hard to survive without it.
Working a/c will also increase the value of your car.
