Has anyone raced their car in the cold. Like 35,40,50 degrees F? Is there any traction when its this cool? Is there anything special you do to prep? or any other advice... Thanks, Tony

I have. Aside from poor traction, I remember it was a major ***** getting the headers hooked back up with frozen hands!

Note: I was using street tires at that time. Don't know how much slicks would be affected, especially if there was a lot of continuous action and the other cars were keeping the track warmed up.

Traction shouldn't be a problem with slicks assuming there is any sort of track prep. If this is a carbureted ride you might need to jet the car up some to account for the cooler air. Make sure to get all the fluids up to temp before making a pass. Most of all, have fun graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks for the replies...
This Saturday is our tracks' last test day. We are expecting 31F friday night with a high of 47F on Saturday. Ive changed front shocks and Ive borrowed a 950HP to try in place of my modifed Holley 3310. So far its run a best of 12.34 at 110.68. with lazy 60 ft's in the mid to high 1.80's.

My experience in a climate similar to yours and if down below 55* especially if it's cloudy traction definitely will be a problem unless they prep the track real well and you super heat the tires, wait til a bunch of other cars make some passes FWIW

Track prep is a little questionable during non-event days... Its supposed to be cloudy. I guess Ill really put those new Koni's to the test :D

Around here traction gets bad with the cold weather. Especially when dew point is getting close to air temp. Generally speaking my MPH gets faster and 60' times get slower and ET stays about the same.

The only prep things that I do is jet richer and use thinner oil. Sometimes I leave the car running in the staging lanes with my heater on to keep both me and the car warm.

PS. and I'd race through the winter if they could keep the snow off the track :D

I just got an e-mail notification from the track that all weekend activities have been cancelled due to cold ... That leaves one weekend left... I hope we have a little indian summer here.

Tony have you thought about ever going to BIR during the Wed. night street tire races? I know you can get any testing done on street tire & I don't know what the rules are or if they allow drag radials or not. I tried e-mailing them once with no reply.

I raced in NJ this past Feb. but it was in the mid 40's and no snow on the ground to report..but it did snow a few days later :D

Had my best MPH (at that time) and a decent ET (13.20) but my 60 ft. was a 2.05
Left the jetting the same (74's)
