Quick question: When i go to ring my doorbell, it only rings once. It is supposed to be a 2 chime ring (one when button depressed, one when released) Mine only rings when the button is released. I thought the chime assembly was busted, so I got a replacement, same model, same wiring, same problem. Can this be the sign of a bad transformer?

Sounds like it's not getting enough voltage to slam the plunger hard enough against the top chime bar.
Could be bad connection somewhere or just a weak transformer.
Might check the push button for corrosion and see if you can find any bad splices.

Most 2 chime units are designed so you can connect wires from the back door (rings 1 chime/tone) and wires from the front door (rings 2 chimes/tones). Done this way so you know if someone is at the front or back door. I venture to say that you have a button you are expecting 2 chimes/tones on to be connected to the 1 chime/tone connection.

On a side note: if on the 2 chime button you push in and hold the button you will on get a 1 chime/tone and won't get the second chime/tone until you release the button. Used to hold the buttons like this at Halloween and drive people crazy.l:)

And the ones that had the lights that had the photo cell on them stick a white piece of paper over the photo cell and after 5 minuites the light starts flashing like a light housel:)that one also drives em crazy..

Good point, maybe only the back door terminal is being used. :thumbsup:

I might be wrong but I *think* he is talking about the "DING" "DONG" from the front door button and is only getting the "DONG" which is operated by a spring when the button is released.

Here you go...more than you ever wanted to know....by the way...try switching the wires...and see if you get just a ding!

We switched the wires at our house and got "dong, ding"...made my parents MAD!:D
