I have a neighbor of mine wanting to swap me a set of fresh 702 heads and some cash for my pontiac dissasembled pontiac 455. Anyone know anything about these heads? any info would be appreciated graemlins/beers.gif

65-66 closed chambered castings I believe..the combustion chamber looks like a 390 head..a bathtub..good for bumping up compression on a flat top or mild domed piston big block

I have an LS-6 crate engine.... rectangle port, 118cc chambes and big valves... Question is, will I see any improvement by switching to these heads? Thanks for the info graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I think the chambers will be too small and compression will be way too high if you still have the factory domes in that crate motor..

Finally, a local. graemlins/hurray.gif If you don't want them, see what you neighbor want's for them. I could be interested.

I hope they are decent, I'm spending a buttload on 2.19's and 1.88's, port work and unshrouding the valves. They better make my 462 sing!

Purs,

From what I've read here, you can get into water pretty easily on the 702's when cutting for bigger valves. Hopefully your machinist is aware.

Yeah, I read that too. He's done lot's and lots of heads. He said he was aware and said those famous last words, "Don't worry"..... graemlins/beers.gif

I have the 702 heads on my 396. I had them cut for bigger valves, unshrouded, and a pocket port. No water was hit, so it's possible.

Thanks!

71metbu, Ill ask him for ya I dont think Im going to pick them up. Lots of locals have told me that Im better off with the heads I have.

Hey, since your in alger, do you know the Johnson family up there? I went to school with Jimmy and Ive bought an exhaust system from his father Jim. I guess there pretty hardcore racers, and Jims got a 68 or 69 chevelle that i think runs 9's N/A
