: Old motorcycles?
Brettd85 Jun 23rd, 08, 1:53 PM Anyone have any old motorcycles around or know of anyone with an old motorcycle for sale? I am looking for something cheap to ride in the city to work every day, probably very rarely on the freeway. Id like to find something cheap(<$1000) that requires maybe a slight resto or is even just an old driveable bike. I like old 70's hondas and things like that, the older and cooler the better. Would be nice to just find an old honda that just needs a tune up and new tires and call it good. It doesnt need to be a super fast crotch rocket, just something with some character. I have just been looking on craigslist but figured you old guys are pretty knowledgable about daarn near everything and usually know about all the good deals. Thanks for any info.
kettbo Jun 23rd, 08, 2:19 PM I'll look to see what is available
Has been a while since the Terry, the guy you got your BBC heads from, told me "KZ-750 in a box...." If he still has it, know a cheap price. Thing is, it was torn down pretty far so more work than you wished.
You would have loved my 74 CB-750 Honda. Same blue and black stripes as your Elky.

Hmm, exhaust might be something nice to have... But,,,, any pics?

Sounds expensive...
Erik referred me to a guy at work with this 76 cb550 in red though. He will let me know if he wants to sell within the next couple days. The front wheel is off it at the moment but it is kinda a cafe racer style. Pretty cool if you ask me.

kettbo Jun 23rd, 08, 6:01 PM You want at least a 750 to keep up with todays 500s!!!!!
RC Engineering was near one of my jobs.....1000+cc kits for the 750 back in the day.
This is until Kawasaki introduced the KZ900 and follow-ons.....

Georgy Boy.. I don't really need to keep up with anyone, not yet anyway. The road to work is only 30 mph anyway and I just want a fun, unique, cheap, little cruiser. I think it should be peppy enough to just have a little fun with, besides I only weigh 175lbs. Might even be fast enough to take your elky! ;) :D
Brettd85 Jul 2nd, 08, 11:52 PM Just bought this from a guy at work for $600. Its a cb500t. Hadnt run in a year but has 13000 miles on it. Pulled the plugs, added some fresh gas and checked everything over. Started fairly easily with kick start but only on 1 cylinder. Ran it a while, played with the carb, got it to run on both. Then was just mostly running on the other cylinder. Figured with some carb rebuilding/tuning it can be made into a nice running engine. It has good compression and is almost all original except missing turn signals. I wanna get it running well enough to ride this summer a few times to work. Then I am going to restore it over the winter to look like the cafe style bike below. What you guys think?

 It does do good burnouts though!
66SSFan Jul 3rd, 08, 12:28 AM Sounds like a good plan Brett, you should go with me and a few other friends to the vintage bike run at Vashon Island this year. Thousands of really cool bikes. My friend just completly restored a BMW R90 cafe racer from the early '70 last year. I had a 60's BSA as a kid with a chrome tank, wish I had it now. There is a really good motorcycle mechanic in Redmond if you need some help, the shop is near Willows RD and 95th.

kettbo Jul 3rd, 08, 1:04 AM Both the Pink Scooter and Brett's new bike need extra side mirrors, QUADROPHENIA re-make. Cute bike Brett as bought. Interesting plan for the winter
But, this is what you really need to aspire to:
