: BLower motor problems
depley Jun 22nd, 08, 7:19 PM First off my blower only worked on 3 and 4, not one one and two. It worked this way for a few years. Then suddenly the switch got "sticky" and I had a hard time even moving it.
Then all the sudden my blower quit working altogether on all settings.
I have replace the switch but no go, still nothing. What do I look at next? If its the blower motor I am going to have to pay someone to fix that, I am not ready to attempt to pull all that stuff out. If there is something else to try first I am ready for that!
Stalkingbear Jun 22nd, 08, 7:28 PM Shoot... the blower moter isn't that hard... maybe three - four screws and its out. Use an ohm meter to see if 'juice' is getting to the unit... it probably is. If it is, then the blower must come out. And - you are in luck! The replacements are pretty much junk from what I have experienced..... noisy.... cheap... etc.
depley Jun 22nd, 08, 7:37 PM yeah but its an a/c car! Doesn't the blower motor come out on the engine side of the firewall?
depley Jun 22nd, 08, 7:41 PM Wait, dang it, I checked the fuse, and I swear I looked at it before but darn thing is blown, maybe I have hope yet.
Stalkingbear Jun 22nd, 08, 7:44 PM Ok... just more of a challenge. My '65 is an a/c car and there basically was one bugger of a screw to get out... had to use the braille method on that one. If you take your time.... look it over carefully, use a mirror to check the location of all the screws and when they are out, you need free space under the motor for it to drop completely out (because of the squirrel cage blower)
If I was close, I'd come help ya.
Don't be afraid to drop the inner fender if you need to... maybe 6-8 bolts.
Stalkingbear Jun 22nd, 08, 7:47 PM Keep in mind that the fuse is a 'valve' that protects the system. If it has blown - the motor still might be bad. If it has an internal short and draws too much power then 'fttt' goes the fuse.
Stalkingbear Jun 22nd, 08, 7:50 PM Also.... nice Sprint. Had one in Tucson as a partnership with a buddy. We also obtained a '64 Nova with the factory 283 so he took the Sprint and I took the Nova. The Sprint was a nice car.
depley Jun 22nd, 08, 7:52 PM Well put a 20 amp fuse in (all I had) needs 25 amp.
Blower motor comes on in position 1, 2 and 3 but not 4. thats 3 times better than it was lol. Of course there is a relay of some sort on the firewall that the big orange wire with fuse comes out of I believe is for 4th position? Possible I should replace that relay while I am at it?
depley Jun 22nd, 08, 7:53 PM Thanks on the sprint, it actually came rom Arizona, got it a little over 5 years ago from a guy in Phoenix area just south of Sun City I think it was.
In fact its theone with the blower problem, at this point the a/c does not work, I think I need a new POA valve. I don't think the old one likes R134. Which is why I stuck with R12 on the 72 Sport Sedan when I redid it last weekend.

I was assuming the switch that got sticky might have shorted out. It was pretty difficult to even move the lever with the old switch.
Stalkingbear Jun 22nd, 08, 8:06 PM Sorry... you have moved beyond my expertise. You now will have to go upstairs to the guys that really KNOW the electrical systems.
Silly fuse.....
depley Jun 22nd, 08, 8:30 PM I don't do electircal. That was what I always had my Dad for. My brother tells me everytime I ask him about something to hire someone to do it lol. This includes putting up exterior lights, he knows my electrical expertise and is sure I will fry myself at any given moment.
