Hi from England, I've owned my 1970 Chevelle for a few months now..started noticing a few parts with Canada written on them..did'nt put 2+2 together..thought maybe all Chevelles were like that !!
Then after having some trouble decoding my serial no's I asked for help..and find out I have a Canadian Car..

Congrats! You can now send away to GM Canada for the build data on your car if you want.

Hi Ron, what exactly do they send you ?
Found the original build sheet today, after someone explained where it was likely to be :thumbsup:

Oh, you found the buildsheet, cool. Then you likley do not need the VVS docs. You get a cover letter that tells a bit about the model and how many were made and second page that lists options and so forth. http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/data/564/bow_tied_gm2-vin.jpg

Maybe I'll just stick with my build sheet for now..could end up paying for something I already have !!
Did you have a build sheet ?

Why did GM Canada keep records and GM US not? or did they and something happend? Wish there was some way of finding this information for my 64. It has been apart more times that I could ever imagine. I got the current one as a shell, and my first which I used for parts didnt have any documents in it.

I didn't have a build sheet. I actually thought I bought a clone when I got back in '92 (not a #s guy personally, plus I was too young to care at the time). It was neat to find it's pedigree, but no big deal.

I would send away for the Gm of Canada documentation. You never know, someday it may not be available.

I just received mine today, money well spent!
I have owned this car for 20+years and would have never would have guessed it was 1 of 769 (L/34) built in Canada.

It's called volume. If you look at the millions of Chevrolets (not just Chevelles) produced over the years, keeping records that had no intrinsic value to the company had no value in keeping them. Divisions that had much lower production numbers like Pontiac were in a much better position to hang on to tons and tons of paperwork. GM as a corporation didn't keep records, individual divisions did. Apparently, production volume north of the border was such that good record keeping and archiving didn't present a problem. Look at the various differences in production documentation from one US assembly plant to another in any given model year and it's no wonder. There's no consistency in production build sheet information from plant to plant so keeping track of individual car information would have been a miracle and maintaining that information in a database for no purpose (at the time) would have been a waste of resources.

Found the original build sheet today, after someone explained where it was likely to be :thumbsup:When you say 'build sheet' do you mean an 8.5 x 11 sheet with 100+ blocks of broadcast codes or a 'line tag' like the top photo on http://www.chevellestuff.com/1970/chevelle/bs/os/os_docs.htm? Canadian-built Chevelles had line tags where Chevelles sold in Canada but built in the U.S. had build sheets like the example on that same page. GM of Canada docs you receive for a fee are also shown on that page.

Yep...its the "line tag" Dale, it was under the rear seat, wrapped around one of the springs.

I found two line tags on the corners of the rear seats, and one behind the passenger bucket seat. The GM Canada documents offer you more info than the Line Tags. It will cover the numbers stamped on the block also. Talking about documents some one paid over $500.00 to get the original documents on an L34 70SS Canadian built.

my 68 300 Deluxe is not a canadian car but can GM of Canada document it still if it was made in the U.S?

Only if it was exported for sale in Canada when new, as I understand it.

If the vehicle was imported to be sold in Canada, they can provide you with documents. The only way to know is to contact them with your VIN #. Only 231 LS6 were imported to Canada and can be documented by them.
