: Which double pumper?

I have decided I am done with vaccum secondaries; I wan't to get a double pumper off Ebay. So far, all I know for sure is that it will be 750cfm, I need one with progressive linkage, dual metering blocks(do all DP's have dual metering blocks?), and it will not have a choke; I'll mill the airhorn off in a milling machine, and blend it. Between adding this carb, a good air filter, and a Victor Jr., this will be about a 465 horse or so 385 daily driver. Which list number should I get? I see alot of 4779's on Ebay. BTW can you get any kind of mileage out of a DP? Assuming a person can drive without a foot of lead. tongue.gif Thanks, Scott

Id try to find a new or used 650 speed or mighty demon depending on what you have for a cam. My buddy gets 18 mpg on the highway in his chevy II with his 850 annular mighty demon. But his car is a stick and that makes alot of difference.

I get 21 MPG with 3.08 and 700R4 and I have a holley 650 dp. And that is with me having a lead foot...I can't drive long enough to get a good milage estimate without stomping it open.

That 21 MPH was calculated on hilly terrain and spending a bit of time every so often with my foot to the floor.

Well my final drive is 1:1, I have 3.50 gears, and 25.5" tires. I have enough motor that I need 750cfm also. If I could get 13mpg I would be happy. That's what I get with my 3310 and only 440hp. I just wan't to know which list number DP to get.

Man if I had more money I'd get one of yur BIG'S carb's; those look nice. So when building a ghetto (cheap) double pumper, what are the main things to do besides milling the air horn, and jet extensions? Whats with the notched secondary float? Is it worth it in my case to replace the boosters? What about adjustable air bleeds? At what point do you need 50cc accelerator pumps? Thanks, Scott

notched floats are for use with jet extensions. The boosters are something you shouldn't try by yourself. Stick with an out of the box 4779. Tune it properly. If you want to upgrade, send it out to be "hotrodded"IMO

Right now I have to go fast for cheap. tongue.gif

i agree with mr4speed,its hard to beat a 750dp with a proform main body.you can try e-bay for a rebuildable donor carb.just be careful of ruined pieces.
