: Scavenged Serpentine System?

Planning a trip to the local Pull a Part next weekend. I'm looking to put together a serpentine belt system for my BBC. Has anyone out there done this with scavenged parts, those kit they sell are just to much $. I work in a machine shop so modifying some of the parts I find won't be a problem.
Any certain years to look for?
I was there a few weeks back and picked up a radiator and dual 11" electric fan off of a Camaro. I thought since I had everything out I'd go ahead and try to fab a serpentine system.

I have a setup using SBC aluminium brackets. It uses adapter plates to bolt them to the block. Setup has accomodations for Alt, PS and A/C. A/C pump is on passenger side (good for my 67) and is made for the newer pancake type compressor. I made some slight mods to use a Sanden compressor. Had the brackets powder coated , and with some tinkering it all went together, and looked pretty trick. However, there is very little room in front of the engine in 66-67's, and I could not get a fan (reverse rotation) to fit, and could not get adequate electric fans to cool the BBC. Talked with Don at Alumitech and I think his dual fan setup now uses a low profile fan and should fit. This system uses a 'long' water pump, while the 67 used a short pump setup - hence no room. The problem with the dual fans was that all of the drive pulleys are moved forward to line up with the LWP, and with the limited space, wouldn't clear the usual twin fan setup.
Having said all of that...if your vehicle is setup for a LWP you will have more room. I Got the adapters for the brackets off a guy on Ebay, and found the correct SBC brackets on there too. I had pictures of the setup installed (sans fan) but lost them when my computer took a crap last year. Try a search of my nick in this forum. There is a lot of discussion of BBC serpentine systms. Many are not true serpentine systems. They use 2 belts but call themselves 'serpentine systems'? Anyway...yes it can be done. I think I even have a blueprint for the adapters if you wanted to make them. The setup GM sells for Around $800 won't work (don't ask how I know!). The brackets are cast steel (aka HEAVY!!)) and it tries to put the PS pump in the space occupied by the steering box. Save the $ and effort.
