Hey guys,
I got my 396 pulled apart so I can take the heads over to the machine shop. I want to ID the pistons so I can figure my rough compression ratio and pick a ball park cam. I found the pistons I have. They are a Sealed Power 460P or W460P. I can't find a volume for the dome. Can anybody tell me the volume of the dome? Maybe in an old catalog or something? I have come up emptly. Thanks for the help.

Rad,
SPeed Pro does not list a dome volume for this piston. All it says in the catalog is that it is 9.6 to one, but does not say with what heads. Those pistons are "generic" replacements that are listed by all the major manufacturers. I would bet that by looking at the dome and the valve cutouts, it is probably no more than 10 cc dome volume, if that.

The pistons look like they would make 9.5 comp ratio at most(probably more like 9.25) with small closed chamber heads 65/66/67...97-98cc and just go up from there, 9to1 with 68/69/70 heads 100cc.

Hm graemlins/sad.gif

Not exactly the 10.25:1 compression '69 396 I was supposed to have. Looks like I will have to try and find the dough for a 427 sooner than I thought.
