: Stalling when giving gas

After the last year keeping my '72 in a friend's garage to get it road-ready, it is finally time to take it out of the garage. The issue is that the car idles alright, and sounds good when it is in park and I rev it, but when I put it in gear and try to give it gas it stalls out at basically around 1000-1500rpm. It sounds like it might be gurgling a little bit before it sputters out. I haven't really had a chance to look at too many things to troubleshoot it, but I figured I would throw it out there to see if I can get any suggestions before starting on it. Probably a simple fix...any ideas what it might be?

Sounds like the accelerator pump has dried up. Check inside the carb when you pump it, if it has a spray out the squirters.

Yeah, check the accelerator pump. Engine off, take the air cleaner off, and work the throttle linkage by hand. You should see gas squirt down the carb into the intake if it's working.

I had a similar problem once...idled fine, revved fine (in park)...or so it seemed....try to go in drive....cough cough stall die.... My choke was stuck closed.

Okay I admit. I had it unplugged (electric choke)....

Alright, I am going to be working on the car tonight, and I will check out both of those options. Any other ideas before I (knowing me) waste hours trying to figure out a 5 minute problem? :)
