I see numerous titles from team member,as we all are to tech member to gold member.
What are the qualifications to be part of the last 2?

Thanks.

Every thing he touches turns to gold, and he kidnapped Austin Powers's FASHA.........

Oh A gold member lol

Seriously, I'm not sure what the details are, but they sold a certain number of gold memberships....

Back in 1998 after the site had been up for a little while, Al offered 201 Gold memberships as an idea to help fund the site.
Those Gold members had a few extra perks above the regular paid membership, but in general it was just a way for members to contribute a little extra. When all 201 were all taken, that was it- no more were offered.

So today, 10 years later, when you see a "Gold" member- its someone who has been on the site, contributing for a very long time.

Users who have the title Team Members, with the Flag, pay a yearly subscription donation to the site. You get some extra perks with this compared to the free "Tech Member" users More info here:

Anyone can become a Team Member, and in general if you find yourself using the site a lot, its a nice way to give back to the community, as Keeping the servers and stuff online isn't free.

As I understand it, the number 201 comes from the number of 65 Z-16 Chevelles produced.

Further, I hear when a gold member slot becomes available, a Senior member by time on the site or possibly number of posts may get offered the vacant slot....something like this...

Nope,

There will be no more re-issues of gold if they were to become vacant.

:)All the gold members I've communicated with are excellent ambassadors of this site.

However, only Darren Cameano has a link to a web cam on the shores of Hawaii.

That ought to be worth a Platinum membership. :)

"Tech Members" are just regular members. It is the basic user level.

"Team Members" like yourself, have chosen to pay for their site membership, which helps keep the site running, and gives the user a few extra perks, like access to the member showroom, members classifieds, etc.

It doesn't have anything to do with Qualifications, knowledge, number of posts, years on the site, or anything like that. Its just a way to give a little recognition for the folks who support the site, thats all. :)

For Non-paying posters Tech Team means you have posted at least 30 times (outside of CE posts don't add to your count in there) Senior Tech Team means you have posted at least 1k times. Doesn't mean they were quality posts though  :D

Just remember that advice gathered on the internet is worth exactly what you paid for it and you won't get in any trouble!

Jeff, thanks for the explanation. I was thinking that as a tech member one would have had some other previous qualification, I.E .licenced electrician or licenced plumber would be knowlegeable enough to speak about their business with certainty. So only the fact that a member has written "X" amount of posts gives them this title.
