Anyone had experience with the Edelbrock 7102 cam kit in a 355?

that's the .488/.510 lift one?
if so, then i haven't read too many favorable reviews. of course, most people probably put it in a motor without enough real compression that is installed in a car with a stock torque converter and highway gears.
i'm not 100% sure, but i think Speed Pro makes a cam just like that one- probably even the exact same grind made at the same factory- if you want to try it out for half the price.

I`ve talked to a couple people who have ran that cam and they say it`s a little soggy down low but once it`s in the rpm range it pulls pretty good. Summit sells one very similar but with shorter advertized numbers for about $90 cam and lifters.

I bought this 355 and the guy said that the cam was one up from stock. He dropped off the receipts for the engine build the other day and it is a 7102 cam kit. Actually Edelbrock has quite a few milder cams. When I started working with the advance curve and jetting, I realized right away that this was a little more than a mild cam. I can get about 16-17" of vacuum, which isn't too bad. It wanted lots more than stock initial advance as well. I'll have to go back to the 3.36-1 rear end and see how it works, because 2.56-1 gears sure aren't part of this equation. There isn't a whole lot under 3K rpm. I have a 4.10 rear end which is probably what the engine would work best with. I really don't feel up to changing the cam right now. It does drive just fine, just not the best combination to get the most out of the engine. Derrick is right. Not many have anything good to say about the cam.

i think its a prety good cam for the money i put together an engine for a friend 350 bored .060 over with some cheap claimer 11 to 1 pistons that gave a honest 10.2 to 1 compression with a set of smog heads that i ported for him with stock valves and summit headers, with a junk for a carb eddy 750 and rpm intake it ran 13.2 at 103 mph in street trim. open headers i guess. so at least on street tires i should say.

anything below a rolling 45 mph you can do a heck of a burn out, it does have a 10" convertor somewhere around the 3000 to 3300 brake stall test. he is running a 3.73 posi out back. not sure on size of tire.

timing is real short has about 22 degrees initial and 36 before 2500 rpms. runs real strong to 7200 rpms with just some 20 dollar z28 springs.

if it was my combo i would have ran a holley carb for a little more ease of tuning.

the 13.2 was the first time he took it to the track and we didnt try to dial it or nothing just had fun and run what we brung he was thrilled with the combo and he loves those burn outs that he can do while rolling down the street.

so i might be the only one who likes the cam for what it is, sounds good i think.
