I have a set of reproduction redline tires I want to advertise but before I do I was hoping to get an idea of the best and or cheapest way to ship. If shipping is cost prohibitive maybe I will just advertise locally instead of the free classifieds here or possibly e-bay. Anybody with any experience shipping tires? Thanks, Troy

I've shipped/received plenty of tires...
I just wrap them together in Saran Wrap, looping it thru the center & working around the tire, and then band the pair with duct tape.
UPS will ship this way but there is a slight additional "unboxed" fee.
In fact, tires bought from the Tire Rack or Summit are delivered this way.

I resolved to not ship anything bigger than about 15" cubed weighing more than 30 lbs. For some reason, I really suck at shipping large items, and I always lose money on selling items bigger than this. I sold a set of slicks and a chain hoist for $75. I bought the label online for UPS to ship them for $30. After they got there, they back charged my credit card $130 for shipping. No more! If I have something you want, come and get it. I will never get burned again.

ups or fedex ground will be the cheapest. Try fedex ground as they are cheap. But it's still going to be expensive. Just wrap in the wrap like bill suggests.

Tires I have purchased from Tire Rack come as a pair taped together. No saran wrap or anything else if I remember. You might check and see if you can get them shipped from your workplace as business rates for UPS are much lower than for us "civilians". Or go to the UPS main shop rather than those little stores, as I suspect the little stores charge a premium.

DHL is very cheap for large items. I personally haven't ever had a DHL 'mishap', but I got my fair share of FedEx and UPS problems.

Thanks to everyone who posted. This gives me some direction. I will take some pictures and post them in the classifieds and hope if anyone is interested they are fairly close. If not, I will have to price around. A buddy of mine ships a lot of heads, cranks etc. and uses DHL with good results. Maybe I'll start there. Once again, Thanks.

Bought a pair of Hooker Aerochambers once out of Calgary and they shipped DHL. It was really reasonable. Cheapest by a mile.

I shipped a tire that I put into one of those heavy duty contractor/body bags thru FedEx
From CT to GA it was $20.35 and the tire weighed 26 lbs.

Chris, Thanks for the $ figure. I can now tell a prospective buyer approx. $100.00 to ship. Probably won't have many bites when shipping is that much but you never know, maybe someone close will be interested. Thanks to all !!!
