Finally made a top end blast after having the front end aligned and everything checked out. Up to now I have not driven the car over 65 or so. I know top end is a good measure of actual HP.
My top end test went as follows: took the car down to about 40MPH in second gear, then let into it on the highway. Have been shifting 1-2 at about 5800, but the 2-3 feels better at 5400 - 5500. Car pulls real strong in top gear up to about 5000 - 5200 then feels like it is at its peak. Interestingly, the DD2000 sim that I have done over and over again, places the HP peak at 5000RPM for my engine combo. With converter slip this puts me at about 105 - 106 MPH.
I also installed the heavier spring in the vac secondaries which has helped quite a bit out of the hole. As opposed to incinerating the tires from a dead stop, I can get about 8 - 10 feet before the secondaries are wide open and I am in the powerband. Between that, lowering the car, playing with the tire pressure and setting the advance curve back to full in by 2800, instead of full in by 2400. Only a crude measure but have went from 50' of tire marks to about 15'. But the car feels much stronger SOP.
My good old handy-dandy Isky slide Power-Speed calculator [ you young guys won't know how to work this - you have to be proficient in the use of a slide rule ] yields a P/W ratio of 10/1 (4000#/400HP) - my guess but probably bery close! Predicted ET 12.85 at 106 MPH. 3.73 gears w/ 28" tire - cross the line at 4700 (add 5 - 7% converter slip for 4935 - 5029 RPM).
I might make my 12.90 goal!
