Would these be a good head for a 496 street(99.9%)/strip motor for around 550 hp with out sacrificing to much torque?

Mitch,

For what it's worth, I'm using those exact heads on my 99.9% street 540 motor. They might be a little too large for a 496 but someone like Mike (Wolfplace) or some other expert on here would probably be more helpful.

Mitch,
They are an outstanding head, in my opinion the best out of the box head you can buy & will work very well.
I have one 489 I did that was a true 9.8 compression with a fairly mild solid roller that made 610 lbs ft @ about 4500 & 670 HP @ 6300 on a very conservative dyno,,mine :D
It had over 500 lbs ft from 2900 where I started the test on so it was not exactly lacking in low end torque ;)

Depending on the cam you are planning I would suggest the 305 with the CNC chamber option which will save you about $600.
They will flow very close to the 315 to about .550-600 lift.

If you email me I can probably save you a few dollars on the heads. ;)

Mike,
The reason I ask about these particular heads is because Im looking at a used pair for sale (not local). Though Im not ready for heads yet , they got my attention. I would love to have AFR's but the high price is a bit to much for me right now..

Is theyre any ques. you would ask the seller to kinda get a feel for what the heads are like or would you stay away from used heads period?

I'll try email you in the next couple days about the heads Mike , Im interested to see the cost of the CNC chamber option (I didnt know they offered this separately).
Thanks,Mitch

If you can't see them you will have to take the persons word on condition.
First question would be why is he selling them?
Too small for a combo or going some other direction?
Wife threw him out,,,,, sleeping in the garage & needs room for the tv,,,,,or fridge for cold beer :D :D
You know,, the usual questions,,,,,,
