Took apart the front suspension this weekend and it had oval bushings in the rear of the lower control arms. I have owned this car since new so the oval bushings were in 68 SS's. Doing a search on the forums it seems some believe they were on 68 cars some believe they started in 70 to smooth out the ride.

And some say it means the car is not an SS :(

They came on 1966 thru 1972, see this link

Oval bushings is an indicator of a SS car but not a sure thing. If GM ran out of round bushings the day the car was put together they would have used what ever they had around. Some original cars came with a round on one side and an oval on the other.
If you took a car to a dealership and had a lower control arm replaced you would have gotten an oval arm as that was the replacement part they used..
